Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the founding and recognized departments of Central Polytechnic College , Thiruvananthapuram. Right from its inception the department imparts skills in emerging technologies to the students. It was established in 1960 to meet the growing demand for man power in the field of emerging area of mechanical Engineering. Education without skills of innovation and skills of entrepreneurship is incomplete in modern sense. Institutes are being equipped in respect of infrastructure for innovation so as to build India a developed nation by the year 2020. The prime responsibility of educational institution focused on technical education is to groom technically competent people to build the nation through industries. The department making such visionaries. This department is the alma mater of several technocrats and engineers in India and abroad. The department now under going modernization programme in terms of machineries and equipments in various sections. To inculcate higher standard of excellence the department organizes industrial visits, educational tour, and conducts regular lecture meetings addressed by eminent persons from industries. Department has good collection of variety of books, journals and periodicals. Department recently started entrepreneurship club for promoting entrepreneurship skills of students. Most students of the department get placement in leading industries/ organizations and get admission in reputed institutions for their higher studies every year.
